"I am sick and tired of being sick and tired" Being Sick in Bucharest

When you get sick and you're somewhere other than home, it sucks. There's no other way of saying it. But if you have a food allergy on top of that natural discomfort, being sick becomes incredibly stressful. Which then, of course, makes you even more sick.

From having celiac disease, it opens you up to having other autoimmune disorders. I am "lucky" in that I have multiple autoimmune disorders to track. This causes my immune system to be down, which means when I got sick I go down. I've had colds that have lasted for months because my body just can't fight it off.

When I was in Bucharest, I got super sick. I'm not exactly sure with what and it doesn't matter. I tested for COVID and that wasn't it. I will say, out of all the places I've been, Bucharest has had the same amount of amenities I get, if not more so, than what I get from home. I was lucky to find a restaurant that served gluten free soup AND were part of a delivery service!! I couldn't even find that in New York!

Luckily, I had packed groceries with gluten free bread and gluten free crackers. Most often, no matter what country you're in, you can find butter so that I leave to finding once I get to the location and can get to a local grocery store.

Sadly, I have no advice here. Only to say, if you're traveling the world and you get sick, hope it's in Bucharest. I also have a plea that countries become more aware to the plights of those with celiac. Hopefully in a post COVID era, it will become easier for people to travel and get items delivered to them if they get sick.
