Eating on the Celiac Cruise - Greek Isles 2024
In Rome, we made sure to check out the following places:
Pizza in Trevi, which is literally right around the corner from Trevi Fountain has a lot of excellent options for folks that are gluten free. They even swap out your place mat to a different color so the entire staff is aware that you have a gluten allergy!
Right next door is a gelato shop called Gelato in Trevi which is 100% gluten free! It was absolutely delicious!
We then checked out Cimarra4, which was also completely delicious!! So many gluten free options and AIC approved!
For breakfast the next morning, we checked out La Licata, which was not an AIC approved restaurant, but they had a gluten free breakfast section and they were very safe about making sure I got the best option possible before getting started on the chaos of embarking on the boat!
In Capri, that was the only day we had to get meals off the boat, and there were no AIC approved restaurants. But our tour guide brought us to a place he felt would be a good option for gluten free eating. He was correct! We had a BEAUTIFUL view and AMAZING food at Ristorante da Giorgio Capri !
We loved getting to have that experience at this restaurant and highly recommend it.
As for the boat itself it was a very different experience from the Oktoberfest cruise. People kept asking me if one was better than the other. That's an impossible question to answer because there is no better than the other, it's just a different experience, which is what people with celiac disease also deserve. They deserve different layers of opportunities and options based on what they're looking for out of their travel experiences. Oktoberfest cruise I went on was a more high end luxury experience, where as this was buffet style, more options for food and you have control over the portion size. The negative, was a lot of the products were products you could find in your grocery store for the breakfast and lunch. BUT for dinner you got that taste of luxury you got on the Oktoberfest cruise.
What I appreciated overall with Celiac Cruises, is no matter what level of luxury you're getting on the boat you're getting one week of not having to think a single thought about what you're eating. I didn't even realize how much brain space it takes up for me until I don't have to think about it. It also makes me sad that when I am tasting something so delicious on a Celiac Cruise you take a moment to think "wait, this is too good it's probably not gluten free". Then you have to force yourself to look around and see you're on a Celiac Cruise. Everything is gluten free. You are safe. You deserve good food. I cannot wait for more Celiac Cruises in the future!
